How it works
- DNS lookup: we ask Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS for nameserver records. A domain that does not exist returns NXDOMAIN.
- RDAP registry check (.com, .net, .org): RDAP is the official replacement for WHOIS. A 404 from the registry means it has no record of the name.
- .pk and .com.pk: DNS only, because PKNIC has no free public RDAP. Confirm on PKNIC lookup before buying.
Tips for choosing a domain
- Short, easy to spell, and easy to say on the phone.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers unless they are part of the brand.
- For a Pakistani audience, .pk or .com.pk builds local trust. For a global audience, .com is still the default.
- Check that social handles with the same name are free too.
Frequently asked questions
How does this domain checker work?
It asks public DNS (Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS) whether the name has nameservers, and for .com, .net, and .org it also asks the official RDAP registry (Verisign or Public Interest Registry). A registry record or live DNS means the name is taken.
Is an 'available' result guaranteed?
No. It means no public registration was found at that moment. Reserved, premium, or recently deleted names can still be blocked. Always confirm on a registrar before paying.
Why are .pk and .com.pk only checked with DNS?
PKNIC, which runs .pk, does not offer a free public RDAP service. A .pk name that is registered but has no nameservers could show as available, so confirm on PKNIC or a .pk registrar.
Do you save the names I search?
